School Improvement Planning
School Improvement at Drighlington Primary School
School improvement is a continuous, reflective, and evolving process. Our School Improvement Plan is a working document that outlines our strategic goals and current priorities. It is designed to be responsive—objectives are underpinned by clear milestones which will be monitored, reviewed, and refined throughout the year in response to pupil needs, staff input, and community feedback. Our whole school community, including governors, staff, parents, carers, and children, plays a vital role in shaping our direction through meaningful consultation and shared ownership of improvement.
This plan sets out how we aim to raise school-wide standards, improve individual pupil outcomes, and place every child—regardless of background, need, or starting point—at the heart of all decision-making. We are committed to ensuring that every child feels a strong sense of belonging and receives the support and challenge they need to thrive.
At Drighlington Primary School, we value the uniqueness of every child. We know that children learn best when they feel safe, included, happy, and understood. We offer a nurturing, inclusive, and stimulating environment where children develop independence and resilience. Governors, staff, pupils, and families work collaboratively in a culture of trust and mutual respect. Our broad and balanced curriculum is designed to meet diverse needs and aspirations, nurturing social responsibility, creativity, curiosity, and a love of lifelong learning.
We are passionately committed to ensuring that every child reaches their academic potential while also receiving a holistic education that develops their personal, social, and emotional wellbeing. Through this, our children grow into confident, kind, and open-minded individuals, well prepared for the next stages of education and life beyond primary school.
Our school’s vision is ambitious and future-facing. It is founded on our ethos of Nurturing, Supporting, Believing, Achieving and centred on nurturing children who are emotionally intelligent, creative, reflective, empathetic, and self-aware. We aim to develop confident and resilient children who can embrace the challenges and opportunities of the wider world.
We believe school improvement must also focus on staff wellbeing, development, and empowerment. By setting high expectations, offering high-quality professional development, and encouraging innovation, we create a culture where both staff and children achieve their very best. Our improvement journey is also outward-looking, strengthened by collaboration with other schools and professionals, including through our federation with Robin Hood Primary and our links across the St Anthony’s cluster.
By implementing our shared vision:
-
Our children will be inspired to develop a lifelong love of learning.

Our staff will be empowered practitioners who create inclusive, memorable, and impactful learning experiences.
-
Our community will embrace diversity, equity, and high aspiration for all.
-
Our children and staff will be prepared for lifelong learning, confident to meet future challenges and fulfil their potential.
